Vantage Highway, we abandoned the Palouse to Cascades Trail

Cle Elum to Vantage Washington

We had a nice breakfast at the Iron Horse Bed and Breakfast, so we started pedaling around 930am.

Since the Palouse to Cascades Trail is so rough and bumpy, we decided to ditch the trail and ride on the Vantage Highway.  Once we got to it,  it was nice.  It is very scenic and not too much traffic. It basically follows the Yakima River the same as the trail does... just on the other side.

The trail would be fabulous if it had a bit better surface such as crushed limestone to make it easier to ride without needing a mountain bike.

We made a quick stop at the bike shop in Ellensburg for a shifting adjustment on Kay's bike.

We decided to go past our overnight destination by 20 miles since Darryl was available to drive us back to town.  In the morning he'll drive us to where we stopped at Ginkgo Petrified State Forest.  This will cut tomorrow's 80 mile day down to 60. Since this is a Guinness World Record attempt for Lynn, she has to ride every mile of the route.

We met some nice people at a boat launch spot with a port a potty. Hi, Todd and Leslie! We made it safely, and it was nice to meet you.

It did get pretty hot today on the road. At one point, my garmin showed 100 degrees.

We could hear thunder way in the distance but it never caught us.
