Forsyth to 20 miles east of Miles City Montana
We woke up early with the rooster (before 6am). It was about 60 degrees. We packed up our tents, loaded our bikes and rode 1.5 miles to town for coffee and breakfast at the gas station by Lynn and Sandra's hotel. We left around 8am. We rode on the frontage road. We were on frontage roads for about 15 miles then had to get on I-94 for about 18 miles. Then we could get on US12. All the roads were good and low traffic (even the interstate wasn't bad). The frontage road (old US highway 10) out of Forsyth was unremarkable. Then from the interstate the land started looking like the Badlands of South Dakota, only greener.
We took the interstate into Miles City, had a picnic lunch then went another 20 miles uphill against the wind so we could make the next ride 60 instead of 80 miles. We got onto US12. There were lots of grasshoppers on the road that we ran over or they jumped out of the way. It was a bit entertaining or at least something to keep from thinking about the hills and headwind.
It was a long day, but tomorrow is a rest day and the next day will be 60 instead 80 miles.
65.3 miles
