Cooke City Montana to Top of the World Cody Wyoming
We left Cooke City around 8am this morning. It was a cool 50 degrees. It quickly warmed up with a bright sunny beautiful day. We headed east on US212 also known as Beartooth Highway.
We started at 7600 feet. We climbed up to over 8200 feet then had a fun downhill back to 7000 feet... then basically climbed up to 9,400 feet for 20 miles.
Somewhere on the way I saw people picking up trash that they saw fall off of a truck. It was big chunks of concrete and lots of plastic wrappings. A little further up the road, I saw some $5 casino chips. I stopped to pick them up. I picked up about 20 of them. They were from the casino in Cooke City. I was trying to figure out what to do with them when I saw 2 ladies putting a trash bag in their pickup. I stopped to talk. The trash they picked up sounded like the same kind of trash that the other people were picking up, and they jokingly asked if I had some trash for them. I said "yes"! So I gave then the chips and told them to take them to Cooke City and cash them in!
I pedaled on slowly upwards and stopping often to take pictures. I got to Top of the World around 1230pm. It was nice to have a whole afternoon to relax and enjoy the sights.
24.94 miles
3,166 feet climbing
