Deadwood to Hill City South Dakota
We left Deadwood around 730am while it was still cool... around 68 degrees. We got onto the Mickelson Trail right away and enjoyed the quiet beauty.
Here are some other pretty pictures from the trail.
This was a large gold and silver mining area which is now used for other scientific research. Between Sugarloaf and Englewood the trail diverged and we chose poorly. We ended up taking the prettier but more difficult section... so we pushed the bike a few times up steep rocky sections. I'm not sure what happened to the original rail trail, but we managed to get through.
There were lots of wildflowers.
We found a good place for a cold drink and a hamburger.
There were some big rock cuts.
Kay's birthday mile post. Mine (and 2/3).
After lunch, we got hot (the temp was in the 90's) and took a dip in the water... or dipped our feet and shirts.
Kay's birthday mile post. Mine (and 2/3).
We saw deer in the back yard of a house by the trail.

Darryl met us this morning in Deadwood. Sandra's husband, Mike came last night and Sandra flew home today. Mike will be with us for 2 weeks and Darryl will stay a few days. Darryl Kay and I are camping at Trail Side Campground in Hill City. It's pretty but may be noisy.
