Custer to Forsyth Montana
We left around 730am when it was a nice 60 degrees. We went back across the Yellowstone to Pease Bottom Road (apparently there was a Fort Pease) which turned into Meyers Road, the Old State Highway 311. We rode through the Yellowstone Valley with the river on one side and cliffs on the other. It was beautiful even though the road was pretty rough at times. It was also very remote. We only saw a few cars all day.
We saw a name on one big rock with a date of 1928. I didn't get a picture of it. We crossed the Yellowstone River twice and followed it a long way.
We stopped in Hysham at the Cenex for ice and water, but the town has no clean water for another six months due to a problem at their treatment facility. Good thing Sandra showed up with ice and water.
A few miles from town was the Forsyth Springs with clear clean cold fresh water! We saw someone drive up and fill a 5 gallon jug. Maybe it was someone from Hysham. Kay and I are camping at the Wagon Wheel tonight. We got set up and showered. Then Sandra and Lynn picked us up for a meal at the local Dairy Queen. Then we drove around town. There is a man named Bob Watts who has painted murals on several buildings and has his own art gallery.
Tomorrow we go to Miles City. There will be a little bit of interstate riding... oh boy.
