Munich Bike Tour

Munich Small Group Bike Tour
We got up at 6am feeling well rested and much refreshed. We went downstairs to a fabulous breakfast!
After breakfast,  we walked to the location where the bike Tour will start.  Since we were plenty earlier, we decided to go for a walk.  We saw some interesting looking church spires and went in search.
This is a very beautiful church. We stepped inside and found that there was a service going on.  The sound from the responsive reading sounded really nice.  There is an 30 minute organ concert every Wednesday afternoon that I would love to hear,  but we have other plans. I later learned that the spires from this church survived the bombings of World War 2.
After this, we headed back to the bike Tour location. We walked 2.5 miles on a very pleasant morning  (65 degrees).

At 10, we met up with the bike tour. There were 15 people from Netherlands,  Holland, Denmark, Poland, Australia, Portugal, and only Dottie and I were from the US on this English speaking tour.  Dottie and I and the 3 year old girl were the only ones who chose to wear helmets... and the little girl ditched hers half way through. The city bikes were kind of wobbly, but they worked well enough for this 8 mile tour. It was a nice way to see a good section of the city, and our guide shared a lot of history with us.
Here are some pages from history...
Our second stop was Feldernhalle.
Next, we rode to and through Englischer Garten. It is the world's largest park within a city.
There are man-made waves to support the river surfers...
We ended the tour with 8 miles around 1pm. We stopped for a few groceries for lunch tomorrow then back to the hotel for a short rest. In the evening,  we went for another short walk, then grabbed a delicious sandwich.

Going to Munich Germany

Going to Munich
Dottie and I have been planning this trip since last fall. Now it's time to trust the plan and go! My friend Christi, who flew in from Orlando to see her mom, took us to the airport this afternoon.  We caught a 530pm flight to Denver.
From there,  we caught an 830pm flight to Munich Germany.

We arrived in Munich on Monday around 130pm Munich time (630am Wichita time). According to my fitbit, I got 2.5 hours of sleep. According to me, I got NO sleep. The plane was comfortable.  The flight was smooth. The atmosphere was dark and quiet. The movie selection was plentiful (I watched Oppenheimer). The food was great (dinner was served about an hour after takeoff).
We were also served breakfast about 2 hours before landing. It was just difficult for me to sleep in a seat that doesn't recline well (even with a neck pillow).

We landed around 130pm, then followed the crowd toward baggage claim and exit. I stopped at an ATM to get 250 Euros. I had to decline the conversion rate before it would give me the money.  Not sure what that was about,  but oh well.

Next, we stood in line for about 30 minutes to get through customs.
We found a train ticket kiosk and bought tickets to Munchen Hauptbahnhof (the central station, which we never presented to anyone. We found the train by going down, got on the train and watched for our stop. I set an alarm since it was a 45 minute ride, and I was getting pretty tired! We got off the train at about 430pm. Again, we followed people. Still underground we saw lots of shops and restaurants so we stopped to eat a sandwich thinking that once we got to the hotel,  we wouldn't want to go out again.  Finally,  we arrived at Sure Hotel around 5pm.
Small and clean and a place to lie down! We slept a couple of hours then wondered if we couple sleep another 12 hours and decided... yes.
