Home

Aug 27 - 28, 2024

A few pictures of my travels home.

Some pictures of the Alps. Flight 1 - Geneva to Frankfurt on Swiss Air.

Flight 2 - Frankfurt to Minneapolis.  There was a2 hour delay, so I got to hang in the airport for 5 hours.

After take off meal on Condor Airlines.

Pre landing meal.

I got to Minneapolis around 9pm. After getting my luggage, I got on the hotel shuttle.  I stayed at the Garden Hilton Inn for $140.
I got to bed around 10pm and up at 4am to catch the 430am shuttle back to the airport where I bought breakfast.

Flight 3 - Minneapolis to Atlanta.

Flight 4 - Atlanta to Wichita.

As I exited the plane and entered the terminal, I heard my name. My friend, Janalee was there. She was waiting with her husband and some friends for their flight to Paris. Then I saw another friend,  Rhonda and her husband who were going on the same trip with Janalee.  I got my bags and bike.  Brad and Linda were waiting for me to take me home.  I got home to a freshly mowed lawn thanks to my neighbor and balloons from mystery friend(s) ... Ruth Holiday and Brenda Mueller were involved.
And Roni left me this... (she was here while I was gone).
Here is a map of the whole route that Lynn and I did together.  Lynn is continuing  1,100 more miles to Tarifa Spain. She will have a support vehicle and another rider and a lot more hills and heat.

End of This Ride

Mon, Aug 26, 2024
Geneva, Switzerland to France and back
miles today 26.4
miles so far 2,929.6
feet climbed today 1,102.0
feet climbed so far 92,283.0

We had breakfast and were ready to roll by 830am.
I decided, with France only 12 miles away, that I would ride to the border with Lynn, Mary and Boomer. Then go back to the hotel by myself.

This was the hill to the border.
Then I said my good byes and went back down that steep hill. I took a slightly different route back.
I stopped at a Cafe for a pastry and coffee.

As I was pulling into the hotel parking lot around noon, Beth was just pulling out in the rental van. She stopped to tell me the bad news. Mary had crashed and was on her way to a hospital via ambulance.

Once back to my room, I packed my bike into the bag that I sent here from Norway and waited to hear news on Mary.
By 830pm, the news from Mary is that she has a broken clavicle and scapula and a small brain bleed. They will keep her overnight. Then she will stay at a hotel for a few days and get rechecked.  Susan, the mutual friend of a friend, has offered to help her get to airport when the time comes.

I am so sorry this happened to Mary. I'll be praying for a quick recovery, good doctors, and easy and safe travels home.  And for continued saftey for the rest of the group.

I walked to Restaurant Blandonnet for dinner. I had the goat cheese salad. It was good, but not the best on this trip.  It was $20.
