Missoula to Lincoln Montana
We loaded up our bags and said goodbye to Ethel around 7am. Lona McClanahan from Helena (formerly from Wichita, and the daughter of Wanda Groves) joined us last night and will ride with us a few days.
We went to Adventure Cycling Association around 8am to have a picture taken. They are a large Cycling advocate. They offer maps and tours and a magazine with great stories of cyclists around the world.
We headed out of town on Montana 200. It took us all the way to Lincoln. It is very scenic with big valleys and rivers to follow. Mostly, we followed Blackfoot River.
Near Potomac, I saw 2 groups of 2 very large birds. I think they were Sandhill cranes.
In Ovander, we stopped for a sack lunch at the historic Trixi's Saloon where they had this inappropriate tee-shirt for sale (referring to the home town of the Uni-bomber).
Apparently, it is also the high water mark of the Glacial Lake. The road had a decent shoulder for us to ride on, but there was so much traffic!
Sandra West found us along the way and gave us fresh strawberries. 80 miles was a long ride, but we made it to the motel around 5pm. We went to a The Montanan Steakhouse for dinner which took about 2 hours! We climbed gradually all day to about 4300 feet. The weather is nice (70s).
80.54 miles
2,851 elevation gain
