Hetta, Finland to Jerisjarvi, Finland
miles today 55.8
miles so far 345.5
feet climbed today 1,837.0
feet climbed total 14,905.0

We said goodbye to the cyclists from Switzerland that we met at dinner last night. They are heading to Nordkapp.
We left Hetta around 830am. There was a slight west wind, 56 degrees, and sunny skies as we headed east before turning south. The temperature got up to 70 and the wind picked up a bit. It was a beautiful day here in Finland while my friends and family are sweltering under 100+ temperatures back home.
We saw lots of rivers and lakes.  We mostly followed the Ounasjoki River.
We stopped for a picnic lunch at a parking lot overlooking the Ounasjoki.
We entered Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.  We were only in a very small part of it. There were lakes, rivers, trees, mountains, hiking and snowmobiling trails. It was so pretty and very little traffic.
We stopped at this lonely gas station / grocery store for a short break.
This is Pallasjarvi Lake.
I picked up my 2nd hitchhiker for the day.
This is at the (near) top of a 9% grade hill looking back at the lake.
This weird thing started twirling and making a loud noise as soon as Lynn went by.  It startled us a bit... then it was just funny.
We got to the hotel around 3pm. The doors were locked.  A man in the parking lot told us (in English... he must have heard us talking) that we had to go down the hill to the restaurant to check in.
This is the view from the restaurant.
Here is the back of the hotel. Our room faces the water.
This place was $152 per night with breakfast included.

I wasn't in the mood for moose or fish, so I had the vegetarian meal... zucchini and vegetables.  It was very good. It was about $20.
We didn't sit outside to eat because a man was smoking a cigar. But we walked around afterwards.
Today was absolutely beautiful and peaceful.
