Torun, Poland

I went for a little walk by the river before breakfast. 

Then we went for a long walk around Torun. We followed the narrated walking tour from this website. It translates to English and if you only  want to listen to one thing, choose #21, The Figure of the Donkey. We watched several parents put their child onto the back of the donkey only to watch the kid squirm and try to find a comfortable spot for a picture. 

We went up the bell tower of St. John's Cathedral. 

We talked to some Polish cyclists who are touring through Poland. One guy was riding a Polish bicycle that was made in 1930s... no gears and only a pedal brake.

We found more sculptures in town.

At The Church of the Holy Spirit, we found information about the pilgrimage that we saw yesterday. 

This church was a secret meeting place for anti communist meetings. I think this guy had something to do with it. 

We couldn't go into St. Mary's Church. 

We could stop to get a cold drink.

We found the leaning tower (from the walking tour link).

We visited St. James' Church.

We made time for ginger Gelato! 

We toured Nicholas Copernicus' home.

We went back to the hotel after about 5 miles of walking around to recharge (with a gingerbread cookie and ginger soda). 

Then to dinner... chicken with mozzarella and tomatoes,  potato salad and salad  (for $11.47).

We looked ahead at a particularly difficult day coming up and spent several hours tryng to figure out how to make it easier. We have a couple of options we are still looking at. 

As always, our rest day was very full... and intersting!
